Calling all Commonwealth Choirs!

Would you like to sing our COMMONWEALTH SONG as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons?

We would like to invite choirs around the world, wherever they live, however large or small they might be, to join in celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons on June 2nd, 2022.

Would you and your choir be willing to light a beacon and sing our Commonwealth Song at exactly the same time as thousands of other choirs all over the world?

What is the Commonwealth Song?

We are commissioning a special Commonwealth Song, to celebrate the lighting of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons. These events will take place in all 54 Commonwealth countries, and choirs everywhere are warmly invited to take part. On June 2nd 2022, the Commonwealth Song will be sung as the Jubilee Beacons are lit at exactly the same time in different time zones all over the world.

We are launching a special competition to help create the song. Writers and composers all over the world are being invited to enter song lyrics and music, and we shall eventually choose one song, which will become our Commonwealth Song for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons.

Choirs large or small may take part and learn the song ready to sing it. Choirs may be professional or amateur, including singers who are aged between 1 and 99 years old! The choirs may be church choirs, community choirs, youth choirs or groups of singers who enjoy performing together. Everyone is welcome to take part in this very special, unique World Premiere to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons.

Competition adjudicators choosing the winning song will include The Rt Hon. Patricia Scotland QC, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth accompanied by Bruno Peek LVO OBE OPR, Pageantmaster, The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons, Judith Weir CBE, Master of the Queen’s Music and President of the Royal Society of Musicians and Alison Cox OBE, Founder and Chair of Trustees, The Commonwealth Resounds

The winning COMMONWEALTH SONG will be available for all choirs to learn from Thursday 18 November 2022
