Rother Community Choir

Rother Community Choir

A community choir singing in and around the Rother District for enjoyment and for charity!”

Inspired by the BBC2 series featuring conductor Gareth Malone on a mission to get the nation singing, the choir was created in January 2010 for Rother District Council’s employees. It very quickly grew, rehearsing away from the workplace and welcoming new members with no links with Rother DC.

Today the choir is conducted and directed by Lorraine Barry, accompanied by Hannah Gardner and now has over 50 members.

Despite the best efforts of Covid the choir managed to keep going over the last 2 years with members learning new skills with rehearsals on Zoom.

Rehearsals are every Tuesday 7pm-9pm, at St Marks Church Hall, Little Common Road, Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, TN39 4BZ.

The choir has a wide variety of songs from choral pieces to more recent popular songs.

They enjoy public performances and have been rewarded in 2019 at the Hastings Music Festival, winning the Adult Choir competition with a stunning performance of 2 very different songs; “Never enough” from the Greatest Showman and the classic Queen song “Bohemian Rhapsody”. This success has just been repeated at the Hastings Music Festival in March 2022, again winning the Adult Choir competition with superb performances of “Somewhere over the Rainbow” and “It must be Love”. This latest performance showed the quality and determination of the choir who were reduced from their normal number of 30 plus to just 17 due to covid.

They are pleased to support 2 local Charities; Chestnut Tree Children’s Hospice and St Michael’s Hospice.
