Desirée Flanders-Harrigan hails from the British Virgin Islands. Her passion for helping youth from a tender age, led to her giving back through community service as part of the Leo Club of Tortola where she served in many roles including President from 2009-2010. Mrs. Flanders-Harrigan further served as Co-Coordinator of the Big Brother/Big Sister Mentorship Programme through the Social Development Department. Her love, dedication and commitment to fostering youth within the territory lead her to pursue studies where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Youth Development Work. In 2019, Mrs. Flanders-Harrigan joined the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports in the British Virgin Islands as a Youth Programme Officer. Her responsibilities include creating and developing initiatives and programmes to promote positive youth development. She hosts DYAS Voice, a youth programme centred on relevant matters that affect youth, while providing opportunities for youth to have a positive voice. As a youth advocate, Mrs. Flanders-Harrigan spends time building lasting relationships with youth, while engaging through empowerment sessions and initiatives. She is keen on bridging the gap and building parental support to foster healthy relationships with youth. In her spare time, she enjoys singing, traveling, socializing and spending time with her family.
