Emily Abbott

UK Manager

Emily Abbott is an undergraduate finalist and violinist, reading music at King’s College Cambridge, from Milton Keynes, England. During her first year at Cambridge, she was the recipient of the Derek Cornwell Scholarship for violin performance throughout the university and has recently received the Edward Gollin Prize for contribution to music in college. In February 2023 she was asked to perform in the European premiere of ‘The Blue Hour’ at the chapel of St John’s College, Cambridge. From 2022-2023 Emily was the President of King’s College Music Society, organising concerts and a recital series throughout King’s. Such culminated in two orchestral concerts held in King’s Chapel- one alongside the Choir of King’s College- as well as a concert held in Wilkin’s Hall celebrating 50 Years of Women at King’s. As an academic, Emily is particularly interested in the intersection between music and queer studies. In 2022, she took part in a summer school exploring how notions of sexuality may interact with Schubert and his music, run by the Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften in Vienna.

As a Commonwealth Relay manager for the UK, Emily is helping to find and coordinate music relay leaders for the project and is looking forward to working with everyone!
