Lorraine Lionheart

Singer, Songwriter, Producer, Music Scholar, Entrepreneur

The UK based African music artist was born and raised in the Kalahari Desert, in Botswana, the country they call the jewel of Africa and one of the most romantic African countries. She has a pure experience of growing up in an area so untouched, beautifully remote and that carries a unique sense of deep rooted spirituality. The singer says her music is deeply influenced by the music of the San tribe of the Kalahari Desert. In her words “the San are the world’s most beautiful people”. Even though she embraces her roots and sings in her native languages, 14 other African languages ,as well as in English, her music knows no geographical barriers and appeals to even an audience unfamiliar with African music. She is an adventurous artist who does not feel restricted to any style of music but continues to maintain her authenticity throughout her artistic experience and music journey.

The Choir is made of three small villages in Bedfordshire. There are only 12 of us, but we enjoy singing, mostly in Church, but we also sing in concerts. For the Jubilee we have involved our three villages, and will be having a good party at our local ‘big house’, Moggerhanger Park. There’ll be a Barbecue, Bouncy Castle for the children, plenty to eat and drink, and music, from bands and groups, as well as dancing. We intend to enjoy this wonderful occasion, and our Beacon will light up the night sky at precisely 9.45pm along with every one else who is taking part. We send you our thanks for organising this brilliant, and memorable event.

Third Culture Collective Perform at Houses of Parliament

On 17 March 2022, The Third Culture Collective, The Commonwealth Resounds Ensemble in Association played at the prestigious Houses of Parliament in London, as part of the 2022 Westminster Seminar. The Third Culture Collective trio, featuring Shri Gadhvi on tabla, Simon Purdy on violin and Kavi Pau on piano, played a set in their iconic cross-cultural style. The music on offer ranged from Bach to Bollywood, including Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s O re piya, Hum ko hamise chura lo from Mohabbatein, and instrumental arrangements of their recent releases such as Darshan Do Ghanshyam and Fauré’s Après un rêve.

Performing Bach/Gounod’s Ave Maria was a real highlight. The piano part was written by JS Bach in the 18th century, the melody line (played by Simon on the violin) was added by the French composer Charles Gounod in the 19th century, and the tabla part was newly improvised by Shri!

Hosted by The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, the Westminster Seminar is a peer-to-peer learning programme for parliamentarians and clerks from across the Commonwealth and is now in its 70th year. It was a pleasure to meet and perform for such distinguished guests, including the Speakers of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. After a long day of rehearsing and performing, The ensemble were delighted to be invited to a formal dinner in the Members’ Dining Room!

Thank you to all involved in facilitating such a wonderful event, in particular to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and Royal Commonwealth Society.
