The Purcell School for young musicians flagship music tech show is being taken on the road for the first time. The concert will feature spectacularly talented young Commonwealth musicians and composers from the Purcell School, string players from Muson in Nigeria, Lorraine Lionheart & her ensemble from Botswana, the Anglo-Indian singer Gayatri Nair (as featured in The Voice on ITV), celebrated young guitarist Billy Watmon and ‘Drumming for Peace’ including more than 50 drummers from all over the Commonwealth! We are delighted to announce that members of Ardvreck School’s Pipe band will be joining us for our Sound Image Movement concert in St James’ Church, Piccadilly on Friday 20th April. Ardvreck School, based in Crieff, is one of Scotland’s most prestigious prep schools. A very musical school almost all pupils learn an instrument as part of their education. The group is made up of young pipers aged 9-13 who have won many prizes across Scotland.
The School Pipe Band have already performed on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile as part of the Royal Mile parade and are regularly seen around Perthshire supporting a wide array of events. As a special celebration this year, they are aiming to combine their love of piping with the thrill of climbing and are looking to scale some of the UK’s most inaccessible pinnacles in order to pipe from the top!

We are looking for drummers who play regularly – either by ear or who read music. All age groups and genders are welcome. They will have to be available for at least two full days for training and rehearsals – possibly 12 & 13 April. Performances will be during the week of 16th April when the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) takes place. We are awaiting for the final programme of events for that week to finalise our performance dates.
We are looking for approximately 60 drummers. There are 52 Commonwealth countries and we will have 8 reserve drummers. We shall expect all 60 performers (including the 8 reserve drummers) to play at all events. We would like drummers to wear a traditional costume or bandanas denoting the colours of a Commonwealth country. There is still a lot of planning and thinking going on about how we will conduct this event. Rotary Clubs to note that we are looking for volunteers and there are no funds to reimburse for time off from work or travel.
If Rotary Clubs have drummers in mind – then please put together a list with their profiles and note down if they would be happy to represent any particular Commonwealth country. The list will be forwarded to the organisers who will shortlist and conduct the auditions and training for these events.
